Steven Soderbergh Retires

Famed Director Steven Soderbergh announced that he would be retiring from film after the release of Haywire in April and Contagion in October.

Like most of Soderbergh’s films, his next two flics include an all-star cast. Soderbergh previously directed Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen, Erin Brockovich, and Che. He is well-known for his story-telling abilities.

As such, Soderbergh now plans to work with stills, as he stated that he plans to move to a career in painting or photography. We can at least be glad he’s keeping it in the arts.

Could any director emerge that is more dynamic than Soderbergh? It does not seem likely that another director will fulfill the role of Soderbergh for many years to come.

He attracted actors like George Clooney, Albert Finney, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Topher Grace, Benicio del Toro, and Don Cheadle for multiple films. It is obvious that the acting greats know the benefit of working with Soderbergh.

They are attracted by his style, which many have described as very non-intrusive. It seems to be working as it is easy to look forward to every Soderbergh film.
