Robert Zemeckis’ “Yellow Submarine” Killed By Disney

From the Sea of Time to the Sea of Holes, it looks like Yellow Submarine was not meant to be remade, at least not yet.
It actually seems refreshing that Robert Zemeckis scrapped the project, which would have revamped the 1968-film, using 3D technology similar to that of Beowulf and A Christmas Carol, also directed by Zemeckis.
Though the prospects of a 3D Yellow Submarine floating through the screen seems appealing, it would be more appealing from someone other than Zemeckis.
Zemeckis needs to realize the special effects aren’t what make his films, as the film he produced, Mars Needs Moms, received horrible ratings and an extremely low box office turnout, despite the cost of the film.
After all, it can be easily argued that Forrest Gump was indeed Zemeckis’s best film. Who Framed Roger Rabbit was likely his second best.
Notably, it used cartoon animation, not elaborate motion-capture 3D technology. Zemeckis is trying to sell the project, but one must question as to whether a remake is really necessary.
Could anyone really top the Fab Four, even nearly half-a-decade later? It might be best to just leave this one alone, skipping the cheesy 3D that has been so damning of Zemeckis as of late.
